In 2006, as the culmination of a $5 million rehabilitation of the tower, lighting artist Leni Schwendinger was commissioned to transform the Parachute Jump into, according to Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, "a beacon of light for this and future generations, harking and heralding Coney Island as a place where legends are made and dreams come true." The tower was officially lit on July 7, 2006. The Jump is shown here during a pre-ceremony test run of the lights.
