Sal Corona

Sal Corona grew up working and playing in Coney Island in the 1950's. His Uncle Pete owned the Peluso Machine and Iron Works shop that repaired and fabricated replacement parts for rides, so he could get on many of the major rides in Coney Island for free by mentioning his uncle's name.  Sal worked with and for many of the most successful and well-known business owners of those times.  He took what he learned at restaurants like Nathan's and Feltman's to operate his own food stands starting when he was only 16 years old.  Unable to make enough money to support his young family on earnings from these food stands, Sal took work at Lincoln High School as a repairman.  Sal describes the tough and shrewd nature of his fellow business owners and the atmosphere of competition that has always characterized Coney Island.
