Longtime Coney Island resident Pamela Pettyjohn is president of the Coney Island Beautification Project, a non-profit environmental advocacy organization based in Coney Island. The organization was formed  to encourage community involvement and education in the enhancement of the environment and the resiliency of post-Superstorm Sandy Coney Island. Community activities are conducted through projects that augment neighborhood greening such as the design, development and/or implementation of community public space for gardening or the development/enhancement of parks, street tree beds, waterfronts or other green spaces for public use. Pettyjohn is a retired NYC Transit subway train operator.
