Courtney King

Jamaican-born artist and Coney Island resident

Courtney King was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and has lived in Coney Island for the past seven years.  An artist since childhood, he began working as a sign painter after training in commercial art and fine art.  He spent 12 years working on an oceanliner, where in addition to bartending, he painted murals for the ship's public areas. King also painted and sold T-shirts to both the ship's crew and tourists in ports from the Bahamas to the French Riviera.  He currently paints seasonal and holiday windows for businesses throughout the City. In Coney Island, his windows can be seen at Tom's on the Boardwalk and stores on Mermaid Avenue. He can often be found outside Tom's on weekends selling his T-shirts and portraits of celebrities.
